Norwalk Tree Alliance

The Norwalk Tree Alliance (NTA) is a volunteer, non-profit organization actively engaged with our community in initiating and supporting programs that promote healthy trees and urban forest.

The NTA was formed in 2002 and achieved non-profit tax status as a 501(3)(c) organization shortly thereafter. NTA partners with the City of Norwalk, Connecticut, on a wide variety of tree-related programs. This partnership has resulted in Norwalk achieving the coveted designation of “Tree City USA” by the National Arbor Day Foundation for thirteen consecutive years. Key partnership activities have included the annual Arbor Day Celebration at a Norwalk school in conjunction with the City and the Board of Education, the City tree planting program, the ten years of the Connecticut Tree Festival, and the Rosa Parks Arboretum at Columbus Magnet School, among many others.

The NTA operates the first municipal tree farm in Fairfield County – the NTA Tree Farm at Fodor Farm. This facility cultivates both indigenous and unique species of trees for replanting elsewhere in the City.

In 2006, the NTA and the City of Norwalk were awarded the very first Award of Excellence for Community Trees, a recognition co-sponsored by the Home Depot Foundation and the US Conference of Mayors. Our Urban Forest Improvement Program earned first place in the small City category (under 100,000 population) gaining national recognition for Norwalk and a $75,000 grant to the Norwalk Tree Alliance.
